Another day, another ice adventure!
I had no idea today was about to bring in one of my best bass yet.
The lake was covered with 6" of solid ice, minus a few (huge) cracks dividing it up. It still amazes me how the ice looks different each time I'm on it.
The grid was picked, holes were drilled and the tip ups were set. My first flag came quick and it turned out to be a pickerel. Not the fish I'm looking for today so I quickly sent him back through the hole.
Flags were popping up left and right. With a huge group of friends and the max number of traps set per person, we all knew someone was bound to catch a decent fish.
My next flag shot up and I took off to it. By the time I got to it, maybe 10 seconds later, whatever was on it had already taken out a bunch of line. It was running and I quickly grabbed it, set the hook and started to pull..
NO FLIPPING WAY. I couldn't believe what I just pulled up. As I saw the massive head of the fish right below the hole, I reached down to lip it and out came a GIANT. I think I can speak for everyone when I say we were all amazed over this largemouth bass.
I'm not sure why I was the lucky one today but a sure am thankful I was.
I removed the hook from its lip, tore off my jacket and quickly placed this bass on the measuring board.
21.5 INCHES 😮
5.79 POUNDS
What a blessing this fish was.
Shock, excitement, adrenaline.
It was the best mix of emotions I'll surely never forget.
After loving on this fish, I sent this big bass back to her home where she belongs.
I still can't believe the day on the ice I had.
Great friends, food, fish and fun!
And to top it off, this largemouth bass won me a state pin award.
Thank you!
Does every fish get put back, or do you ever eat them?
That is awesome
